Modern age is the age of computers.  Nowadays computers are being used for small tasks to big tasks. Whether it is farming or weather predictions, computers are being used in everything from agriculture to sending rockets to the moon.

In the present time, computer has started being used so much that now most of the tasks are completed through computer only, while people who have good knowledge about computer, they are also provided with a good job related to computer, because, nowadays all the tasks from studies to job are completed through computer only.

That’s why in the present time it is considered necessary for people to have knowledge of computers, because now computers have become very important. The most important part of a computer is its CPU, but probably many people do not know about CPU (or CPU Full Form).

In such a situation, you must have heard the word CPU many times in the context of computers. Often the word CPU is used for the use of a computer.

But do you know what a CPU is?  Or What is CPU Full Form? And What is the work of a CPU in a Computer?

If not, then through this article today, we are going to tell you About, What is a CPU?  What is CPU Full Form?  And What is the work of a CPU in a Computer? Along with this, you will also be informed about other important facts related to CPU.

What is CPU Full Form?

So friends, let us tell you that in the field of Computers, CPU Full Form is Central Processing Unit.

CPU Full Form : Central Processing Unit

CPU Full Form Centrel Processing Unit

What is the CPU in a Computer?

Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the most important part of the computer.  CPU is called the brain of the computer.  The role that our brain plays for our body is the same role played by the Central Processing Unit (CPU) for a computer, that is why it is said that CPU is the brain of any computer.

CPU works just like our brain, as our brain works to think, understand, decide, in the same way CPU also works to think, understand and decide on the basis of commands given by the user in all kinds of computational devices, hence CPU is called Brain Of Computer.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) in a computer works on arithmetic and logical instructions and runs the computer’s program.  CPU plays the most important role in completing complex calculations in the computer.  The computer does the processing of the input data in the CPU.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is like an electronic chip.  All the software of the computer is installed in it.  Without CPU, your computer will not respond to any kind of activity.

By analyzing the information, the Central Processing Unit (CPU) in a computer provides us with information according to our given command.  The way the brain is necessary for the operation of our whole body, in the same way the Central Processing Unit (CPU) is necessary for the operation of the computer.

CPU is also known as Microprocessor.

What does CPU look like?

A modern CPU is usually small and square-shaped, with several small, circular, metal connectors visible on its underside, but those with some older CPUs have pins instead of metal connectors. The CPU resides in a CPU “socket” (or sometimes “slot”) directly on the motherboard. The CPU socket is inserted pin-side-down, primarily a small lever that serves to secure the processor.

Whereas, after some time, modern CPUs can get very hot if the CPU is left running for some time. To dissipate this heat, heat sinks and fans are placed directly on top of the CPU. Usually, these come with a CPU when you buy it.

Components of CPU / How CPU Works

CPU (Central Processing Unit) does the most important work in any computer. It completes all the other operations of the computer from doing complex calculations. CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the most important part of a computer to run all the Computer’s Programs.

Central Processing Unit CPU

There are 2 main parts in a CPU (Central Processing Unit), the first of which is the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and the second is the Control Unit (CU).  Apart from this, it also has Registers and RAM (Random Access Memory) which helps in the operation of any CPU.

In the architecture of the computer, the CPU (Central Processing Unit) resides in the center.  Data and instructions are entered into the computer through input devices and after that the CPU (Central Processing Unit) processes the data, it takes the help of its two parts Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and Control Unit (CU) in processing the data.

In processing, data and instructions that are in the primary memory (RAM) are transferred to the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and their processing is done there. The results obtained from the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) are transferred to the Primary Memory and after the processing is over, the data that comes in the Primary Memory or the final results are delivered to you through any Output Device.

CPU Components

When to take the data from the input device, When to put the data in the store unit, When to take the data from the value, And when that data is processed and when to send it to the output device, Control Unit (CU) does all this work.

Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)

It is an important part of CPU.  It is responsible for all numerical and logical operations.  Arithmetic Logic Unit performs Arithmetic Calculation and Logical Calculation, such as Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and <, >, =, Yes or No etc.

It is the part of CPU which helps in operating the data.  Through Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), we can perform Fundamental Arithmetic Operations (such as +, -, *, /,), Logical Operations (such as OR, AND, NOT, etc.) and Comparison Operations (such as =, <, >, etc.).

If we go in simple language, then through ALU, we do addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, matching data etc. on our computer.

Control Unit (CU)

The “Control Unit” controls all the work happening in the computer and coordinates all the activities of the Input, Output Devices, and Arithmetic Logic Unit. It controls all the functions (such as Input, Output, Storage, and Process) of a Computer.

Memory Unit or Registers

Memory is an essential component of computers. All the data and programs of the computer are stored in the memory of the CPU.

There are Two Types of Memory in Computer

Primary Memory (RAM)

RAM stands for random access memory, and it’s one of the most fundamental elements of computing. RAM is a temporary memory bank where your computer stores data it needs to retrieve quickly. RAM keeps data easily accessible so your processor can quickly find it without having to go into long-term storage to complete immediate processing tasks.

Every computing device has RAM, whether it’s a desktop computer (running Windows, MacOS, or Linux), a tablet or smartphone (running Android or iOS), or even an IoT computing device (like a smart TV). Nearly all computers have a way of storing information for longer-term access, too. But the memory needed to run the process you’re currently working on is stored and accessed in your computer’s RAM.

Secondary Memory (Hard Disk)

Secondary memory is a physical device for the permanent storage of programs and data (Hard disk, Compact disc, Flash drive, etc.). Secondary memory is a type of computer memory that is used to store data and programs that can be accessed or retrieved even after the computer is turned off.

System Busses :-

These system buses are used to carry data between CPU and memory. It is a path made of Cable and Connectors. These buses act as a communication path for the exchange of data and control signals between various components of the Computer System.

There are Three Types of System Bus in Computer Systems.

  • Address Bus
  • Data Bus
  • Control Bus

CPU also has an internal bus called Backside Bus whose main function is to communicate with the internal cache memory.  Apart from this, it also processes data from chipset, SGP socket and memory, for which it also has Front Side Bus as the main bus.  Whatever information we see on the computer monitor is displayed only after processing by the CPU.

What does Core mean in CPU?

Whenever there is talk of a processor, the core also comes to the fore like how many cores does the processor have?  So let’s have a look at this too.

Actually, the capacity of Core ‘Processor’ shows how capable the processor is. If the processor is of ‘Single Core’, then it will not be able to do heavy work and will hang. That’s why Dual Core, Quad Core, and Octa Core processors are installed in expensive computers, laptops and mobiles. Due to which its ability to work increases.

Whenever we give a command in our computer or mobile, then what process has to be done according to the command, it is the responsibility of the CPU and it is the CPU that gets it done.  For example, when we want to play a video, we just click on it and that video starts playing. What happens here is that when we click on the video, the command goes to the CPU to play the video and the CPU plays that video.

Now how quickly the CPU can do this work depends on the efficiency of the CPU.  The more powerful the CPU is, the more the number of cores in it, the faster the work will be, so it is very important for the processor to be powerful in all our types of computational devices.

The processor which has only one core inside it is called “Single Core Processor” and the processor which has more than one core inside it is called “Multi Core Processor”.  However, processors with more than one core are categorized on the basis of the number of cores such as Dual Core, Quad Core, Hexa Core, Octa Core.

Single Core Processor hangs as soon as it gets overloaded, so to increase its capacity, additional cores are installed in the processor, reading the name of the processor on the basis of their number.  Let’s know about them –

  • CPU have 2 Core called – Dual Core Processor
  • CPU have 4 Core called – Quad Core Processor
  • CPU have 6 Core called – Hexa Core Processor
  • CPU have 8 Core called – Octa Core Processor
  • CPU have 10 Core called – Deca Core Processor

CPU Cores

Single Core CPU

Single Core CPUs used to be old computers and now their trend is almost over. This “Single Core CPU” is useful only for Single Tasking i.e. with this you can work in only one window and it is not for Multi Tasking. In this, you can run only one application at a time and its speed is also very poor.

Dual Core CPU

Dual Core CPU In this there are two different processors in the same CPU.  Which work with the same integrated circuit.  This type of processor can perform tasks as efficiently as a single processor.  But can perform operations twice as fast.  Since each core has its own power.  In these, the operating system is able to handle most of the tasks.  Dual Core and Core 2 duo are a series of processors manufactured by Intel.  The dual-core processor makes it well suited for multitasking.

Quad Core CPU

Quad Core CPU has four processing cores in a single chip.  It is similar to two Dual Core CPUs, meaning it has four separate processors, which can process any instructions simultaneously at the same time.

Quad-core CPUs have become more popular in recent years.  However, the performance gains in these can only be achieved if the computer’s software supports multi-core processing, which allows the software to divide the processing load between multiple processors instead of using only one processor at a time.  Some examples of Quad Core CPUs include Intel Core 2 Quad, Intel Nc Haleem, and AMD Phenom x 4 Processor.

Hexa Core CPU

The processor which has 6 cores inside the chip is called Hexa Core, such a CPU is called Hexa Core CPU.  It is a multi core CPU, it has the ability to work faster than Dual Core and Quad Core CPU.

Octa Core CPU

In Octa Core CPU i.e. processor, Octa Core means 8 cores of same frequency.  Each core does the work of a processor.  In this case, the octa core processor will work as 8 processors.  Octa core processor means faster gaming, full speed processing and multitasking.  CPUs with octa core processors are faster than other CPUs.  Let us tell you that there are eight different layers of the processor in the Octa Core CPU.  These processors work fast during multitasking. Nowadays, Octa core CPUs are in vogue in almost all mobiles.

Deca Core CPU

Deca Core CPU has not only one but 10 cores, which operates at a very high speed and is much faster than a normal computer.
